Robert Preucel’s research focuses on the archaeology of the Pueblo Revolt Period. More specifically, he is interested in the material practices used by Pueblo Indian people as they responded to the social trauma of Spanish colonialism and how these responses still impact their lives today. He established the Kotyiti Research Project with Cochiti Pueblo in 1995, mapping and gathering information on their Pueblo Revolt mesa village, Hanat Kotyiti, which resulted in a land return in 2004. He is the editor of Archaeologies of Pueblo Revolt: Identity, Meaning and Renewal in the Pueblo World (New Mexico, 2007). He currently serves as an archaeological consultant for the Cochiti Tribal Historic Preservation Office.
